When sin occurred in the garden of Eden, we were separated from God; we were lost. As Romans 5:12 says “just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.” But, because of God’s great love for us, He had a plan to save us from the consequences of sin and reconcile us back to himself. In Luke 15, Jesus tells parables of the lost; a sheep, a coin, and the prodigal son. These parables demonstrate God’s concern for and effort toward sinners (the lost) for their repentance and restoration to the fellowship. Scripture tells of the joy that occurs when what was lost is found. Luke 15:6-7 says “…rejoice with me, I have found my sheep that was lost. Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”
Jesus Christ through his life, crucifixion, burial, and resurrection is God’s plan to recover the lost and save us. Jesus Christ came to seek the lost. Luke 19:10 says “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” All who confess and believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior as the parables state, are now found. As Jesus Christ ascended back to Heaven, he left the church with a mission; a mission to go and continue to seek the lost. We are called to seek those who are in darkness by proclaiming the Gospel. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, by faith, they come into Christ’s glorious light. This sermon series reminds us of our call to be seekers and our commitment to seek the lost.
